Salem - Negligent Operation - General Continuance

Our client was involved in a motor vehicle accident in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart. Our client, while pulling through a parking spot, ran into another vehicle. The other vehicle was parked and the owner was placing a child in the back seat at the time of the accident. The police were immediately called. Our client was summonsed to appear in Court on the criminal charge of Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and given a civil citation for speeding. The entire event was saved on a security video of the parking lot, which the officer viewed on scene.

Attorney Alexander Conley represented our client. Attorney Conley immediately noted that our client was of advanced age, and had no criminal record. As a result of this accident, our client decided that they would no longer be driving. However, given the age of our client, a criminal conviction could have effects on our client's ability to receive government benefits and housing. Given these circumstances, Attorney Conley was able to negotiate with the District Attorney's Office, who agreed to give our client a general continuance. With this disposition, so long as no new crimes are committed, the case is to be dismissed at the end of a short continuance period.

This result prevented a conviction of our client, and our client was required to make no admission to any wrongdoing. Additionally no legal punishment was imposed. If you or a loved one is charged with any criminal offense, including what may appear to be a minor motor vehicle offense, call an experienced attorney today.
